Boxing Workout Routine

What do you need to start a boxing workout routine?

This depends on what you want to achieve and where you train. As an absolute minimum you require:

  • Knuckle (hand) wraps or glove wraps to protect your hands. Cotton, semi elastic or gauze rolls are ideal for beginners.
  • Boxing gloves. There are fight gloves, training gloves and bag gloves. The type of glove you need depends on what you want to do. If you plan to train mostly against a bag you need bag gloves as they will protect your hands and joints. Check out my article on boxing gloves and hand wraps.

Then depending on whether you train at a boxing gym or at home you may later also need a punching bag or heavy bag. The bag will require a heavy bag stand or wall mounting. Depending on how serious you are boxing shoes and other protective clothing will also become important.
